Upper Arlington, Columbus Ohio — Handcrafted in Solid Hardwood
A small Ohio workshop crafting personalized hardwood keepsakes — house portraits, custom signs, and heartfelt gifts people actually hold onto. Tell us what matters to you, and we'll make it.
Dovetail Bend is a one-person workshop in Upper Arlington, Ohio. Every piece is designed, made, and finished by the same pair of hands — and nothing leaves the shop unless it's genuinely good enough to give as a gift.
Everything starts with solid hardwood. Walnut is the house favorite — but maple, white oak, cherry, ash and more are all fair game, with exotic species available for custom work down the road. No bamboo, no particle board, no shortcuts on the wood.
Two things keep the shop busy: personalized keepsakes and gifts you can order direct or on Etsy, and a closing-gift program for realtors that turns a home into a walnut portrait. Larger custom projects are welcome too — for the right idea.
A solid walnut board engraved with a detailed portrait of the buyer's new home — their address, their family name, and your branding on the back. It goes on the wall. It stays there. Your name stays with it.
One realtor relationship typically means 20–40 boards a year. That's 20–40 homes where your name hangs on the wall, long after the sale closes.
Intro pricing for first-time orders. A real reply within 48 hours, every time.
The person you email is the person who makes your piece. There's no team, no fulfillment center, no contractor cutting corners on the back side of something you'll never see.
That's not a limitation — that's the whole point. If it leaves this shop, it met the standard. If it didn't meet the standard, it didn't leave.
A custom-engraved walnut board featuring a detailed portrait of the buyer's new home. Personal. Premium. The kind of thing people photograph and post without being asked.
Most closing gifts end up in a drawer. A gift card gets spent and forgotten. A bottle of wine disappears in a week. A generic cutting board goes in the cabinet behind three others.
This is different. We take the listing photo of the buyer's new home, turn it into a detailed portrait of the house, and engrave it — along with their family name and address — into a solid walnut board.
It goes on the wall. It stays on the wall. Your branding goes on the back. Every time someone asks "where did you get that?" — your name comes up.
One realtor relationship typically means 20–40 boards a year. At our intro pricing, that's less than a nice dinner per closing — for something your client keeps for decades.
We handle everything after you send the listing address. No design back-and-forth, no file uploads, no headaches. You send an address, we ship a finished board.
Pricing increases as the relationship matures and value is proven. Every price jump is communicated in advance — no surprises.
Shipping included on all orders. Local Columbus delivery always available. Volume discounts available for 10+ board orders.
Send us a message with the property address (or just introduce yourself) and we'll take it from there. No commitment, no design work on your end, no complicated process.
Response within 48 hours, usually much faster.

Every piece is made to order from solid hardwood. Browse the categories below — or if you have something in mind that isn't listed, just reach out. If it isn't on here, it's probably still doable.
These are starting points, not limits. Every order is custom. If you can describe it — a photo, a sketch, a rough idea — we can usually make it. Reach out and let's talk.
Dovetail Bend is a small woodworking shop in Upper Arlington, Ohio — one person, a good set of tools, and an unreasonable amount of care about whether the finish is actually right.
The name comes from one of the oldest joints in woodworking: the dovetail. It's mechanically strong, visually satisfying, and the kind of thing that makes you stop and look twice. That's what the work should do too.
The shop runs two programs: a B2B gifting program for real estate agents (engraved walnut closing gift boards, made from listing photos), and a direct product line covering house signs, city maps, race memorabilia, golf course layouts, mountain art, and anything else that makes sense to cut from a good piece of hardwood.
Custom woodworking — furniture, bars, built-ins — is available selectively for the right projects. If you have something in mind, reach out. The worst answer is "not right now, but here's when."
No project is too unusual. The unexpected ones are often the most interesting to build.
The first big build was a live-edge walnut bar — the kind of project that takes too long and teaches you everything. That's the work this shop was started to do.
Behind every piece is real equipment — professional-grade carving and engraving tools that hold a crisp, clean line down to the smallest detail. That precision is what lets a house portrait or a city map look like art instead of a craft project.
But the tools are only half of it. The other half is the slow, fussy, hands-on part: choosing the right board, sanding, and finishing each piece by hand until it's actually worth giving to someone.
Production starts July 2026, and we're taking inquiries now. If you have a project in mind or want to get on the early order list, reach out and we'll lock it in before the queue fills up.
Custom order, rough idea, realtor inquiry, or you just want to talk through a project — all equally welcome. You don't need a finished plan to reach out.
We'll be in touch within 48 hours — usually sooner. Every message gets read by the person who'll actually build your piece.
